Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Facility (HPSCF)

The Ottawa Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario
What the facility does

Provides training and support to research with human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC)

Areas of expertise

The Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Facility is multidimensional in its reach within the scientific community. As a facility we provide:

  • All the necessary infrastructure to work with and generated human pluripotent stem cell lines
  • Training on how to work with human embryonic stem cells (hESCs)/induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)
  • Troubleshooting resources for members of the community working with stem cells
  • Tools for new and experienced investigators embarking on using stem cell models
  • Contract work for researchers at the University of Ottawa, its affiliates, government agencies, and other academic and private institutions
  • Symposiums and workshops for trainee education
  • Letters of support, budgets, and collaborative grant writing upon request
Research services
  • Training on human embryonic stem cells (hESCs)/induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) culture methods (harvesting, passaging, thawing and freezing)
  • Training for reprogramming (differentiation, characterization)
  • Perform as a service (cell culture, reprogramming, differentiation, characterization, CRISPR genome editing)
  • Fibroblast extraction and expansion
  • Teratoma injection and extraction
  • Protocol development
Sectors of application
  • Healthcare and social services
  • Life sciences, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment
