About the CFI
The Canada Foundation for Innovation gives researchers the tools they need to think big and innovate. By investing in state-of-the-art facilities and equipment in Canada’s universities, colleges, research hospitals and non-profit research institutions, the CFI is helping to attract and retain the world’s top talent, to train the next generation of researchers, to support private-sector innovation and to create high-quality jobs that strengthen the economy and improve the quality of life for all Canadians.
The CFI’s Board of Directors identified three specific areas of opportunity where the CFI’s funding activities can contribute to a better understanding of the world in which we live, address social, economic and environmental challenges, and improve the health and well-being of Canadians. This includes fostering collaboration and integration between academic research and the private and non-profit sectors.
The CFI believes that supporting partnerships between researchers, institutions and the private and public sectors increases the return on CFI investments by fostering dynamic interaction between sectors and facilitating the flow of research knowledge into the innovation system.
