The Kite Research Institute

University Health Network, Toronto, Ontario
What the facility does

Designs, develops and tests new assistive technologies and treatments to enhance the lives of older people and those with disabling injuries or illness

Areas of expertise

The Toronto Rehabilitation Institute has developed into a world-class and unique resource for rehabilitation research. The Kite Research Institute focuses on four key issues in rehabilitation: 1) prevention, 2) return to maximal function (participation), 3) aging in place and 4) optimization of the rehab system. Its mission extends beyond studying problems; instead it seeks to solve problems. This is achieved through providing evidence for policy change, new treatments, and developing commercialized products. KITE is a totally unique research centre that conceives, designs, develops, and validates solutions for our society, particularly given our increasing elderly population and a rapidly growing population living with a physical, cognitive or communicative disability.
