The Centre for Nutrition Policy and Implementation Science Research is a state-of-the-art research facility dedicated to advancing our understanding of the cognitive, behavioural and contextual determinants of dietary intake, to inform policies, programs and clinical interventions to support healthy eating across the lifespan, with emphasis the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases.
The lab’s research follows translational and implementation science approaches that integrate a variety of research methodologies working with an interdisciplinary team and persons with lived experiences to test hypotheses. This research includes developing and accessing clinical and community-based interventions, many that use technology, to support dietary sodium reduction, food literacy development and healthy eating. The team has created and developed an evidence base for innovative tools such the Sodium Calculator, Foodbot Factory and the Sodium Navigator.
In addition, the lab has expertise in conducting nutrition policy and program evaluation as pertains to population-wide dietary sodium reduction, within Canada and internationally.
The Centre for Nutrition Policy and Implementation Science conducts research that aims to further understanding of the cognitive, behavioral, and contextual determinants of dietary intake. The lab employs a research approach that combines translational and implementation science, integrating a variety of multidisciplinary strategies; in particular, the lab boasts methodological expertise that it extends to its research partners. The group also recruits research participants, incorporating various perspectives.
