Department of Technical Services

Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador
What the facility does

Design and fabricate a variety of custom apparatus to support research activities

Areas of expertise

The department provides engineering services and computer-aided design (CAD design) capability. It has many conventional manufacturing tools along with advanced capabilities. The department uses state of the art tools and equipment such as Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machining, waterjet cutting, laser scanning, additive manufacturing, scientific glassblowing and surface mount assembly to develop prototypes and research instruments. The group has a registered quality assurance program (ISO 9001: 2015) and is certified under Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for welding processes. It also provides instrumentation support and electronics assembly using surface mount technology.
