Ontario Tech University (University of Ontario Institute of Technology), Oshawa, Ontario
What the facility does

Research on hate, bias and extremism, including standards, policy-making and policy review

Areas of expertise

Our research revolves around the evolution of hate, extremism, bias as well as deductive solutions to resolve or alleviate the consequential tension and disbalance around the world. Our research interests include: hate crimes, right-wing extremism, radicalization, policing diversity, Islamophobia, antisemitism, homophobia and transphobia, bullying, violence against women, wrongful convictions, media bias, online hate, stigma, social exclusion/inclusion, and countering violent extremism. Additionally, the facility reviews existing standards and related policies in order to enhance policy coordination and implementation. In a nutshell, we are working towards creating and disseminating knowledge on hate, bias and extremism for government, academics, research network and law enforcement. Our newly established Ontario Tech Global Network Against Hate helps support the same cause.
