Policy-relevant and applied research to improve the quality of life and well-being of people with disability, and those in need of rehabilitation services.
The Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research (IDRR) is an innovative research institute that investigates disability and rehabilitation from the perspective of the health sciences and the social sciences and humanities. The IDRR conducts applied research that is relevant to policymakers. Our multidisciplinary team of scientists and graduate students is committed to developing and advocating for innovative strategies and policies to improve the quality of life and well-being of people with disabilities, and to develop effective rehabilitation interventions for Canadians and people worldwide.
Our vision is to be a global leader in creating and disseminating knowledge to improve the quality of life and well-being of people with disability, and those in need of rehabilitation services. Our mission is to: 1) improve the quality of life and well-being of people with disability through the conduct of policy-relevant research; and 2) work with stakeholders to develop, evaluate and implement effective clinical and community-based rehabilitation interventions.
We have conducted several projects with international and national partners including collaborations with the World Health Organization, Eurospine, the Canadian Armed Forces, AVIVA Canada and the Government of Ontario.
