University of Manitoba Flow Cytometry Core Facility

University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Manitoba
What the facility does

Research on immunology, allergy and asthma, infectious disease and cancer

Areas of expertise

Located at the heart of the Bannatyne campus, the University of Manitoba Flow Cytometry Core Facility is a multi-user facility that provides a wide range of flow cytometry-based services. Our state-of-the-art multi-laser multi-application flow cytometry analyzers and sorter gives researchers like you the capability to design and perform multicolor assays that best suits your needs with high efficiency and high-quality. With our hands-on training program, you will quickly be able to perform flow cytometry techniques on your own using our flow cytometry instruments and specialized analytical software. Our dedicated personnel are always here to offer you full-time technical support on experimental setup, troubleshooting and project design. We also provide sample preparation and acquisition, data analysis and cell sorting services upon request.  Services are provided on fee-for-use basis and are available for both internal and external users in academia research and private sector.

Equipment

Function

FACS Aria III cell sorter

Capable of detecting up to 17 parameters and 15 colors simultaneously. Samples can be sorted at single cell-basis with sample agitation and temperature control into two or four tubes, multi-well plates or microscope slides. Sorter is housed in a Class-II Type A2 bio-safety cabinet. It is capable of accommodating most cell types with its 70, 85 and 100 micron nozzles.

Zeiss Spinning Disk Confocal Microscope, with laser ablation/activation and TIRF imaging capabilities

High-speed dynamic analysis of fluorescence labels. Capable of real-time live imaging with heated stage and CO2 control, Z-stack, tile, TIRF, FRAP

BD FACSCanto II Cell Analyzer

3-laser, 8-color system for flow cytometry-based cell analysis. Its newly designed loader carousel allows for automatic loading of up to forty 12x75-mm tubes without operator intervention, reducing hands-on time and improving results reliability.

Beckman Coulter CytoFLEX LX cell analyzer

This 4-laser, 16-color flow cytometry analyzer is equipped with both semi-automatic single tube loader and 96 well plate loader. Its unique violet side scatter allows for nanoparticle and microparticle resolutions under 200 nm. The volumetric measurement makes it possible for particle enumeration without the needs for counting beads.

BD LSRFortessa Cell Analyzer

This 5-laser, 18-color flow cytometry analyzer is equipped with both semi-automatic single tube loader and multi-well plate high throughput system.
