Femtosecond electron diffraction

University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario
What the facility does

Materials science, ultrafast spectroscopy in solid and liquid state, femtosecond electron diffraction in inorganic, organic and biological materials

Areas of expertise

The facility makes use of ultrashort electron and light pulses to follow the dynamics of molecular processes in the femtosecond time regime. This lab can compete head-to-head with billon-dollar facilities such as Linac Coherent Light Source at Stanford.

Research services

The group establishes research and development collaboration in the areas of materials sciences, ultrafast spectroscopy and femtosecond electron diffraction.

Sectors of application
  • Chemical industries
  • Education
  • Energy (renewable and fossil)
  • Life sciences, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment
