Analytical Lab (chemical compounds)

Cape Breton University, Sydney, Nova Scotia
What the facility does

Qualitative and quantitative analysis of chemical compounds using Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography coupled with Tandem Mass Spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS)

Areas of expertise

The facility can analyze – qualitatively and quantitatively – any complex mixture. The Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC) instrumentation allows the team to separate compounds effectively. The compounds can then be analyzed (elemental composition) using tandem mass spectrometry (MSMS) for m/z up to 2000 and with a photo-array detector (PAD), with no mass limit.

Research services
  • Analytics – Liquid chromatographic separation of chemical compounds based on their polarity using gradient solvent system and determined based on m/z ratio (up to 1200amu) and UV detector (photo-array detector (PAD)).
  • Compound determination
Sectors of application
  • Chemical industries
