Internet of Things Research Laboratory

Ontario Tech University (University of Ontario Institute of Technology), Oshawa, Ontario
What the facility does

Our research realizes the full potential of the internet of things to enable smart interactions and change the way people interact with their surroundings to live smarter, safer and more productive lives

Areas of expertise

Our current focus is on creating smart infrastructures for IoT (Internet of Things) environments and their applications in different domains including intelligent transportation, smart health, public safety and law enforcement, smart cities, connected vehicles and industrial manufacturing. Privacy preserving is a major dimension in our developed technologies. We have experts in computer systems, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and software design. Our research lab is equipped with the state-of-the-art tools to test and experiment with IoT applications and systems at both the hardware and software levels. We have a number of Lambda machine learning workstations and servers to perform high performance modeling tasks, a living lab around Ontario Tech campus with a large number of deployed sensors of different form factors (e.g. traffic cameras, air quality sensors, etc.) all streaming live data to our analytics platform. A number of industrial-grade drones are also available for testing drone applications. We have also developed a highly efficient and optimized data collection and preprocessing platform where you can hookup your sensors and start streaming to internal or external analytics engines.

Research services

Distributed systems, data analysis, real-time IoT streaming, analytics engines, data collection and preprocessing, autonomous vehicle testing, connected vehicles testing, smart traffic signals, V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) and V2I (vehicle-to-infrastructure), remote health monitoring
