Cutting-edge research with the application of artificial intelligence technologies.
The Centre for Applied AI (CAAI) is at the forefront of research in the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) across industries including health care, telecommunications, finance, education, cybersecurity, entertainment and retail. The mandate for Sheridan’s Centre for Applied AI is to generate novel solutions to healthcare problems through the use of leading mobile and related technologies including artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, wearable computing, augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR), and machine learning.
Examples of the types of research that the CAAI conducts include: 1) senior living, senior independent living; 2) fall prevention; 3) developing low-cost portable medical kits for low-resource settings (e.g. detecting pneumonia in children); 4) Clinic of the Future: A MS HoloLens AR app that presents patient’s vitals and context-relevant medical information in real-time using Cloud DX’s Vitaliti wearable; 5) micro-location for asset tracking using the latest BLE standard (Angle of Arrival/Angle of Departure); and a number of other projects that use IoT, Wearables, AR/VR, and Machine Learning.
All projects are led by a faculty member (Principal Investigator) and 1-4 research students. Projects are conducted in collaboration with our industry and/or community partners. The CAAI has strong relationships with Apple, Google, IBM, Microsoft, TELUS, Rogers, SOTI, PointClickCare, Tech4Life and others.
