Offers researchers a comprehensive MRI system capable of routine and advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) imaging techniques
The Medical Imaging Office of Research and Innovation at St. Michael’s Hospital provides access to a dedicated research Siemens Magnetom Skyra 3 Tesla MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scanner capable of functional magnetic resonance (MR), diffusion tensor imaging, elastography and spectroscopy. One notable feature of the scanner is its large bore (70 cm) thereby making it less claustrophobic than smaller bore (60 cm) scanners typically found in other hospitals and research facilities.
St. Michael’s Hospital complete magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system allows our imaging centre to perform an extensive variety of possible MRI experiments. The following is a sample of the types of measurements we support:
- Neurological Studies – Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) with a wide range of presentation protocol, Diffusion tensor imaging with fiber tracking capability
- Cardiology Studies – Relaxation time measurements (T1 and T2 mapping); Coronary imaging
- Body Studies – Elastography; Liver fat quantification
- Vascular Studies – Contrast and non-contrast enhanced peripheral and neurovascular imaging
- Healthcare and social services
- Life sciences, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment
