Electrochemistry and Biosensors Laboratory

Université de Sherbrooke, Sherbrooke, Québec
What the facility does

Studies the biophysics of recognition elements and their ligands when in solution or when attached to surfaces in order to develop electrochemical biosensors.

Areas of expertise

The lab’s infrastructure enables the characterization of biomolecules (proteins, oligonucleotides, etc.) and of the thermodynamics associated with their interactions with ligands to form complexes, both when free in solution and when attached to surfaces. This infrastructure allows us to work with very small amounts of material, which provides significant savings given that those materials are often valuable. It also enables the characterization of ligand binding kinetics to these biomolecules with unprecedented microsecond (µs) temporal resolution, further making it possible to obtain additional information on their function. Specifically, this infrastructure enables state-of-the-art biophysical characterization of biomolecules. We rely on these biomolecules to then develop biosensors that can readily be deployed in undiluted complex matrices. To characterize biosensors, we rely on infrastructure that enables precise delivery and removal of ligands, making it possible, in turn, to determine biomolecular affinity with high precision.
