Applied human retrovirology and retroviral immunology.
Professor Barbeau’s Human retrovirology lab, located in UQAM’s biological sciences department, offers a unique environment for research on the study of human retroviruses in in the context of pathogenesis and normal placental development. The Containment Level 2+ (CL2+) lab is the only one of its kind at UQAM. It enables a wide array of experimental approaches for the study of human retroviruses, including HIV. The lab is primarily equipped for infection studies in various cell types (primary cells and cell lines) and allows for a variety of measurements of the replication efficiency of these viruses. Specialized equipment is dedicated to cellular transfection approaches.
The CL2+ lab is also used by Professor Mohammad-Ali Jenabian to handle samples from HIV-infected patents and SIV-infected monkeys for research focusing on the immune response to HIV and SIV.
Measuring of viral replication, viral inhibitor tests, immune response, viral immunology, transfection of expression vectors in different types of eukaryotic cells.
