Research Lab for the Study of Organizational Behaviour

The University of British Columbia, Vancouver, British Columbia
What the facility does

Investigates the role of individual and situational factors on moral functioning

Areas of expertise

The Research Lab for the Study of Organizational Behaviour - Role of Individual and Situational Factors on Moral Functioning has been used for the study of organizational behaviour: we investigate the role of individual and situation factors on moral functioning. The lab provides  a controlled research environment in which to conduct accurate measurement and testing of hypotheses; technology that enables appropriate and accurate assessment of unconscious or automatic cognitive and affective processes; and  the ability to simulate situations and real-world business environments with great fidelity.

The research projects taking place in the lab represent a theoretical extension of Dr. Aquino’s previous work on moral functioning in organizations and contribute to the broader literature on moral psychology and business ethics.  The projects' originality lies in the fact that they are among the first to  investigate systematically the influence of two types of automatic processes – intuition and implicit assumptions – on moral behaviour in business contexts.
