Centre for Biological Applications of Mass Spectrometry (CBAMS)

Concordia University, Montréal, Québec
What the facility does

Promotes research and hands-on training in the applications of mass spectrometry to diverse problems in the chemical, biological, and clinical sciences, including metabolomics, lipidomics, and proteomics

Area(s) of Expertise

The Centre for Biological Applications of Mass Spectrometry (CBAMS) is a high-resolution mass spectrometry facility focusing on all areas of biological mass spectrometry, with specific expertise in proteomics,  lipidomics and elemental analyses in all types of biological samples. The CBAMS mandate is: 1) advancement of mass spectrometry in the chemical, biological, and clinical sciences; 2) rigorous hands-on training of personnel at the postdoctoral, PhD, MSc, diploma and BSc levels; and 3) provision of mass spectrometry support for academic research and life sciences firms in the Montreal area.

The specific services offered by CBAMS include full lipidomics analysis of cell extracts, exosomes, biofluids and tissues to measure changes in phospholipids, sphingolipids and glycerolipids. Proteomics services include shotgun protemics, top-down proteomics and PTM determinations in various sample types. The services provided by CBAMS range from experimental design through sample preparation and LC-MS analysis  to data interpretation and statistical analysis. Additional CBAMS  services include measurement of specific biomolecules in a variety of samples, analysis of mycotoxins and their metabolites in biological samples using comprehensive mycotoxin library and elemental analysis using ICP-MS.
