What the facility does

Promotes research and hands-on training in the applications of mass spectrometry to diverse problems in the chemical, biological, and clinical sciences, including metabolomics, lipidomics, and proteomics

Area(s) of Expertise

CBAMS is a state-of-the-art facility in all areas of biological mass spectrometry. The CBAMS mandate is fourfold: 1) advancement of mass spectrometry in the chemical, biological, and clinical sciences; 2) rigorous hands-on training of personnel at the postdoctoral, PhD, MSc, diploma and BSc levels; 3) provision of mass spectrometry support for academic research and small biotechnology firms in the Montreal area; 4) specialized support for larger companies, such as biological uses of ICP-MS.

The instrumentation at CBAMS was funded by CFI, the Province of Québec, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and Concordia University, as well as by donations from the private sector. With the installation of the LTQ Orbitrap Velos ETD, the cutting-edge CBAMS instrumentation is valued at more than $6 million. Not only is CBAMS the most comprehensive academic mass spectrometry platform in Canada, it is notable for its dedication to the hands-on training of students and researchers.
